‘Sunderland to go all out for Walker-Peters transfer’ amid £30m update
Sunderland are looking to bolster their defence ahead of their return to the Premier League.
The Black Cats have today sealed their fourth summer signing with the addition of Reinildo, with Chemsedine Talbi expected to be the fifth in due course.
However, Sunderland are far from over with their transfer business, and have set their sights on new defensive arrivals, having already significantly bolstered their midfield.
The latest link has seen Strasbourg’s Gela Doue mooted for a move to the Stadium of Light, though after an update emerged on his future, the Black Cats will surely look elsewhere.

AC Milan join race for Doue as stunning pricetag emerges
A new centre back is likely to be the priority for Sunderland, though adding more quality and cover in the full-back areas will be just as important.
Doue had been linked, but via a report from Fabrizio Romano on X (7 July), the Ligue 1 outfit have now set a £30million pricetag on the defender.
Sunderland have already splashed the cash, but to spend that much on a player in a position where they already have Trai Hume would be nonsensical.
Instead, Kyle Walker-Peters simply has to be a genuine target for the Wearsiders, given his availability on a free transfer and ability to play on either side.
His wages may be high, but his experience in the Premier League, matched with all of the above, would surely make it a deal too good to avoid.

Sunderland must add versatility to their side
Having depth is a must for the Black Cats this season, and having players who can cover in multiple positions will be key to achieving that.
Season | Right-Mid | Right-Back | Centre-Back | Left-Back | Left-Mid |
2024/25 | 11 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 9 |
Of course, with the season still over a month away, there is plenty of time to rectify that, and based on the business done so far, there is very little cause for concern.
