Sunderland are going all out to try and secure Premier League safety.

With a deal for Habib Diarra in order, and Marcin Bulka expected to follow him to the Stadium of Light shortly after, Sunderland are showing some serious ambition this summer.

If those two deals go through, the Wearsiders will have taken their transfer spend to north of £60m, including the fee used to turn Enzo Le Fee’s loan into a permanent deal

However, their business is far from over, with several more additions expected at Sunderland, including that of a brand-new centre back.

Regis Le Bris needs defensive reinforcements

Sunderland appear to be strengthening the spine of their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League, before probably turning attention to improving the quality that they have in the wide areas.

One of the key positions they will target to improve will be the centre back area, with Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie stating that the Black Cats will make a move to sign a “high-level centre back.”

In terms of those linked, Wilfried Singo has been mooted as a target, and given the Monaco links, there may be something behind that rumour.

However, the likelihood is that a whole host of players will be looked at in the coming weeks, as they prepare for life back in the Premier League for the first time since 2016.

Premier League safety is achievable for Sunderland

Ultimately, finishing 17th or above will be the goal for Sunderland this season, and with the way they seem to be recruiting, they have every chance of doing that.

However, they can't afford to let their guard down when it comes to transfers this summer, knowing that a huge opportunity could emerge at any given moment to seal an instant upgrade.

Le Bris' influence is already having a huge impact on their incoming business, with Florent Ghisolfi also likely to be working hard, despite not yet being announced.

It is certainly shaping up to be a very exciting period for Sunderland supporters.
