Sunderland ready new offer to sign striker, £6.6m bid rejected
Sunderland are preparing an offer to sign St Gallen striker Willem Geubbels, according to Foot Mercato.
The French outlet reported on 30 January that the Black Cats are attracted by the qualities of the French forward with just days remaining in the winter window.
The Swiss Super League side has already rejected bids of £6.6million and £3.3m from Championship sides Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers respectively for the 23-year-old.
Sunderland ready to make Willem Geubbels move
It is fair to say Regis Le Bris’ side is somewhat lacking in the striker position and could do with some reinforcements before the end of the window.
Wilson Isidor has proved to be a top signing this season and has contributed with nine Championship goals but there is a lack of cover as alternative options to him.
As a result, the signing of Geubbels could prove to make sense moving into the business end of the season where promotion is a real possibility.
The French forward has netted seven goals and assisted two in the Swiss league this campaign, taking his tally to 20 since moving from Monaco to St. Gallen in January 2023.
This has made him an important player for his side and could mean a sizable fee could be required for them to part ways with their number nine.
If the Black Cats are willing to table a bid higher than £6.6m before the winter window ends, they could land the forward but it is unclear how much they will be willing to offer.
In other Sunderland news, a deal for a defender has been given the green light ahead of the 3 February deadline.
