Don Goodman makes Sunderland transfer admission ahead of 3 February

Villa News Speaking to Don Goodman

Don Goodman spent three years as a Sunderland player in the early 1990s, making over 110 league appearances for the Black Cats and scoring 40 goals. We're delighted to welcome the Sky Sports EFL expert to our team of pundits on Mackem News.

Don Goodman is hoping that Sunderland aren't finished with their winter transfer business with the deadline rapidly approaching.

Following the capture of Enzo Le Fee, many expected Sunderland to go all out in the winter transfer window but since the Frenchman's arrival, little has happened.

Several players have departed the Stadium of Light but Goodman, when speaking to Mackem News, explained how he hopes to see the Black Cats conclude some more business in the coming days.

He said: "I do think that clubs like Sunderland, i.e. big, big clubs in the Championship, would be attractive homes for Premier League clubs to send their young players to get minutes and to improve.

"There's so many players that have reaped the benefit of that, that now play international football, Champions League football, play at the very, very, very highest level.

"There are so many players that reap the rewards of that. And I think Sunderland would be an attractive place for Premier League clubs to send their young players. So I don't think that the business should be finished, or at least I hope it's not finished."

Sunderland have a real shot at promotion, don't blow it

Despite their recent 2-2 draw with Plymouth bringing the mood down on Wearside, the Mackems are still well and truly in the promotion picture but what they do in the coming days could be a deciding factor.

Lee Fee was a statement signing but the lack of noise since then has been slightly concerning with some areas of the squad still needing work.

Goals have been hard to come by for the Black Cats and that may well be an area they look to address while the season-long injury to Aji Alese may also force them to look at what defensive cover they have available.

Sunderland will undoubtedly be working behind the scenes to secure some new injections of quality but until they are finalised, it means little.

With under a week remaining in the transfer window, time is running out for the Black Cats.
