Sunderland ‘lead race to sign’ Liverpool forward in Deadline Day coup

Sunderland are leading the race to sign Jayden Danns on loan from Liverpool, according to Paul Joyce.

The Times journalist reported via X (3 February) that the Black Cats are in pole position to gain the services of the forward on deadline day.

The youngster is a wanted man in the Championship, though, with Hull City interested [James Fletcher, 2 February] as well as Blackburn Rovers [Pete O’Rourke, 2 February].

As the winter transfer window draws to a close, the Black Cats are looking to do some last-minute business in the hope of strengthening their side as much as possible to support their race for promotion.

The 19-year-old is highly rated on Merseyside and has made four appearances across all competitions this season, including a start in the Reds’ Champions League defeat against PSV Eindhoven on 29 January.

With that in mind, it’s not hard to see why Arne Slot is keen for the forward to get out on loan in the hope of getting regular minutes and experience of first-team football under his belt in order to aid his development.

Meanwhile, Regis Le Bris could certainly use some attacking reinforcements at the Stadium of Light, meaning this could be a deal that benefits all parties.

Wilson Isidor is the top scorer for Sunderland this term although has just nine assists, showing that if the Black Cats want the race for promotion to go up until the end of the term, they will need some backup to their current options.
