‘Sunderland have Romaine Mundle fear’ as French giants enter transfer race

Romaine Mundle is attracting interest at Sunderland ahead of the new season.

After such a successful campaign last time out, there was inevitably going to be interest in those who played a big role in getting Sunderland back to the Premier League.

The Black Cats have already lost Jobe Bellingham and Tommy Watson to Dortmund and Brighton, respectively, and could suffer a similar fate with Mundle.

The former Tottenham star has attracted interest from PSV, with a new club now said to have entered the race, and it will almost certainly spark concern for those on Wearside.

Mundle attracting interest from AS Monaco

Sunderland are already working on a deal to sign Chris Rigg to a new contract, and the same will be needed for Mundle, who is attracting plenty of interest from around the globe.

PSV have shown an interest, with Johan Bakayoko’s exit almost nailed on, and Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have now joined the race to sign the Sunderland winger.

That is according to a report from Sky Sports (15 July), which also states that the Dutch outfit are expected to intensify their interest once that exit for Bakayoko goes through.

Sunderland are in a fairly healthy position contract-wise, given that his current deal runs until 2028, though talks are still needed over a new deal as a matter of urgency.

Sunderland need to accelerate contract talks

Dennis Cirkin and Dan Neil are approaching the stage at which they can seek a free transfer abroad, and Sunderland need to act as soon as possible.

Bringing in new recruits is likely the priority for now on Wearside, but they can’t afford to delay these talks much longer.

Mundle has showcased his ability at the Stadium of Light, and it may not be long until he is rewarded with a new deal.
