Sunderland handed omen for Wolves clash as Premier League make announcement
Sunderland play host to Wolves this weekend, looking to add to their unbeaten home run.
For the second time in just over a month, the international break is nearly over, and Sunderland will mark their return to Premier League action this weekend when Wolves make the trip to the Stadium of Light.
It’s been a dreadful start to the campaign for Wolves, who, after seven games, sit at the very bottom of the Premier League, winless in seven.
However, for those who believe in omens, Sunderland may have just been handed one for this weekend’s encounter.

Rob Jones set to take charge of Sunderland vs Wolves
On Monday, the Premier League announced which officials would be taking charge of which games this weekend, with Rob Jones appointed at the Stadium of Light.
Dating back to 2017, Jones has officiated eight Sunderland games, throughout their time in League One, all the way to the Premier League.
Sunderland have only won on two of those occasions, though one of them wins arrived at the start of the season, when Regis Le Bris’ side announced their return to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over West Ham.
Ironically, the only other game they have won under his watch was the very first one back in 2017, when the Black Cats secured a 1-0 victory away to Bury in the EFL Cup.

Given how crucial that opening day win against the Hammers was, here’s hoping that Jones will witness only his third win in charge of a Sunderland game.

Sunderland vs Wolves head-to-head
Sunderland have faced off against Wolves on 122 occasions, dating all the way back to the 1800s, with 49 wins in that period.
Saturday’s visitors have won 41, while the remaining 32 have resulted in a draw.
The most recent clash was back in 2018, when Wolves secured promotion back to the Premier League, and Sunderland were relegated to League One.
A 3-0 win for the Black Cats brought some pride to Wearside, and having drawn 0-0 with Wolves earlier in the campaign, they finished that season as the only side not to suffer a defeat against them.
With that said, that was the only win Sunderland recorded in these encounters for nine years, with Le Bris‘ side looking to change that this weekend.
