Sunderland ‘greenlight’ Joe Anderson exit ahead of 3 February deadline – report
Sunderland are said to have opened the door for Joe Anderson to depart the Stadium of Light this winter, according to Northern Echo.
The news outlet reported on 29 January that the Black Cats will allow Anderson to leave with the 23-year-old barely getting a look in under Regis Le Bris.
Anderson previously spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town before returning to Wearside where he has been restricted to just one appearance all season in the EFL Cup defeat to Preston.
Joe Anderson was a failed transfer for Sunderland
While the intent may not have been for Anderson to have an immediate impact on Wearside after arriving two years ago, the defender hasn’t progressed at all and an exit seems the only real option.
He has been included in a league matchday squad just once this season, and given the form of those ahead of him, it’s highly unlikely he will ever get a real opportunity at senior level.
With Dan Ballard, Chris Mepham, Luke O’Nien and Jenson Seelt all likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order, staying at the club would be nothing other than wasted wages, albeit he will unlikely be on a considerable amount.

Several League One clubs have been credited with an interest in the ex-Toffees man which in all reality, is probably his level at this stage in his career.
Should Anderson leave this month, he will do so with no hard feelings from Sunderland supporters as he looks to kickstart his career elsewhere.
