Regis Le Bris has every right to be furious as Sunderland regular latest to be injured

Regis Le Bris looks set to be without several of his Sunderland stars for the visit of Wolves on Saturday.

Sunderland are the favourites against Wolves, with the visitors currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League.

Vitor Pereira’s side are yet to win a game in the league this season, and have scored just five goals across their seven games.

On the other hand, Sunderland lost 2-0 to Manchester United before the international break, but have enjoyed a terrific start on their return to the Premier League.

Sunderland have had a number of players on international duty over the last week, however, and problems have arisen for Le Bris as a result.

Omar Alderete injured on Paraguay duty

Noah Sadiki left the DR Congo international camp through injury on Sunday, with the midfielder suffering from a sprained ankle.

While appearing to be a minor injury on the surface, the 20-year-old could ultimately miss weeks of Premier League action if it is worse than initially thought.

And with Sunderland already without Habib Diarra, Le Bris will be forced to get creative with his midfield options.

Tuesday brought even more bad news for the Frenchman. Ale Benitez reported that during Paraguay’s 2-0 loss to South Korea, Omar Alderete was forced off with an apparent muscle issue.

The extent of the defender’s injury is not clear, but even the lightest of muscle problems would be expected to keep the 28-year-old out of Saturday’s match.

Regis Le Bris will be furious to have lost defender he heaped praise on

Speaking following Sunderland’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, in which Alderete had scored the winner with his first goal for the Black Cats, Le Bris lauded his new defender.

He is a strong defender,” the Frenchman said. “He’s really calm, confident. We have different personalities in the squad and the balance is really positive. The balance in the backline as well is really positive.

In that respect, the Sunderland manager will be furious to learn that the game in which Alderete was injured was of no real importance to his nation.

Paraguay’s clash against South Korea was a friendly, with Gustavo Alfaro’s side already qualified for next year’s World Cup.

Still, the Argentine insisted on deploying Alderete, and it will be Le Bris and Sunderland who are left to deal with the repercussions.
