Only Erling Haaland outperforms Wilson Isidor for key Premier League stat

Wilson Isidor has shocked many with the way he has transitioned to life in the Premier League with Sunderland.

Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa saw the Black Cats maintain their unbeaten record at the Stadium of Light this season, though it also painted a promising picture of Isidor.

After scoring the equalising goal, Isidor made Premier League history by becoming the first ever player to score in each of a newly-promoted side’s first three games.

Troy Deeney named Isidor in his Team of the Week as a result, and the latest reveal showcases that Erling Haaland is the only Premier League player better at Isidor in one area of his game.

Sunderland have a goalscoring machine with Wilson Isidor

Isidor also became the first Sunderland player to score in each of their three opening Premier League games at home since Darren Bent on Sunday, showcasing the impact he has made so far this season.

Despite starting just twice and featuring for just over 250 minutes, Isidor has found the back of the net on three occasions.

Isidor’s season so far at Sunderland

For goals per minute, he is unmatched in the Premier League, and via Fotmob, only Haaland has more goals per 90 than the Sunderland star.

Haaland comes in with 1.3 goals per 90 minutes, with Isidor not far behind him at 1.15 per 90.

Now, it’s unlikely, or borderline impossible, to stay at that level, but if Isidor were to replicate that throughout the season, it would see him end the campaign with 43 Premier League goals.

Wilson Isidor could be key to Sunderland survival

If the ball falls to Isidor in the box, you almost know that it is going to result in a goal, and that is a huge advantage to have.

However, to make the most of his finishing ability, Sunderland need to get the ball in dangerous areas far more often than they usually would.

Utilising players like Enzo Le Fee and Simon Adingra will be key to that, to get good service into the penalty area where he can thrive.

Strikers thrive off confidence, and with Isidor having scored as many goals as he has played games at home, he should be full of it heading into the final two games before yet another international break.
