‘Good at interviews’ – Sunderland legend reacts to new backroom hire
Sunderland legend Marco Gabbiadini thinks it will be a case of wait and see before making a judgement on whether Pedro Riberio will be a good appointment as assistant head coach.
The club announced that the Portuguese 38-year-old has joined the Sunderland backroom staff and brings with him over 19 years of coaching experience.
Gabbiadini jokingly explained why Ribeiro would be good in interviews, however, was also reluctant to make too much of an assumption about the impact he would have at the club.
Talking on TotalSport (8 October), Gabbiadini said: “You look at his CV, the clubs he’s been at, he must be good in interviews, is what I’d probably get from that because he’s had loads of jobs.
“He’s got experience, I suppose you’d say, but it’s going to be a whole new ball game for him, and I suppose the thing that you’d comment is that he’s going to bring something different, something fresh to the table.
“It’s hard to comment until we see the outcome of it.”
Pedro Ribeiro appointment can only be a good thing for Sunderland and Regis Le Bris
Sunderland have had a remarkable start to the season and the addition of a coach with 19 years of experience can do nothing but aid the club for the remainder of the season.

Experience with the likes of FC Porto and Olympiacos will be a huge positive for the club as the two mentioned are certainly sizeable clubs with plenty of pressure and demand on the team to deliver results and performances.
Without getting overly carried away at this stage of the season, Le Bris has had a massive influence on the side when taking into account the disaster of last season and now with another experienced set of eyes overseeing the squad, it’s difficult not to imagine it having a visible effect in the coming weeks and months.
That said, Riberio will need some time to have his impact, a brand new country with a brand new squad and specific style to follow, Sunderland’s impressive start will certainly buy him some additional time to settle in.
