Regis Le Bris’ latest decision proves Sunderland must immediately sell ‘unbelievable’ star

Anthony Patterson could be sold by Sunderland in the coming weeks.

Patterson played a crucial role in Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League, but doubts quickly emerged as to whether he would have a future at the club.

Sunderland made it clear from the start of the summer window that they wanted to sign a new goalkeeper, and they achieved that with the signing of Robin Roefs.

Now, after a decision was made on the Dutchman, it has become clear what Sunderland must do with Patterson.

Sunderland need to sell Patterson this summer

As reported by the Northern Echo on 14 August, Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Roefs will be Sunderland’s starting goalkeeper, though it doesn’t come as a shock.

However, that means Patterson will spend the upcoming season on the bench, in a situation that benefits no one.

Patterson is still young, English and talented, but a season of being on the bench will do nothing but see his value deteriorate.

If the Black Cats were to sell Patterson, who has been dubbed ‘unbelievable’, not only would that be beneficial for him to be playing regular football, but it would be a pure profit sale on Wearside, which would be huge for PSR.

As of now, Sunderland aren’t in any danger of breaking that, but with a few more additions expected at the Stadium of Light, his sale could generate additional funds to bolster the squad.

What else do Sunderland need to do this summer?

Omar Alderete’s arrival from Getafe subdued some of the concerns from a defensive perspective, but another centre-back will be needed before the window closes.

Added to that, Sunderland will be looking to bolster their attack even further this summer, after showing a lack of goal threat in their pre-season encounters.
