Xhaka to Sunderland: Club official shares Bayer Leverkusen deal update
Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked to Sunderland over recent weeks.
The former Arsenal man has been at Bayer Leverkusen since 2023 and was part of the team that won the Bundesliga title unbeaten in the 2023/24 campaign.
Signing Xhaka will no doubt be a coup for Sunderland as they look to prepare their squad for the Premier League.
Therefore, it would have been a big boost for Regis Le Bris when it was confirmed on Tuesday that Xhaka wants to move to Sunderland.
However, despite this, a deal does not yet appear close.

Bayer Leverkusen director insists that there is ‘no new offer’ for Xhaka
Le Bris has been keen to add experience to his squad for some time ahead of the new campaign.
Jordan Henderson was linked to Sunderland before he joined Brentford.
Now, Xhaka appears to be the next target for Sunderland, with rumours about his future also rife in Germany.
As a result, Bayer Leverkusen director, Simon Rolfes, was asked about the 32-year-old’s future before the training session on Tuesday.
According to Kicker (22 July), the director said: “There is no new offer. It remains as I have always said. (Xhaka is) a very important player for us.”

Xhaka will be the difference between relegation and Premier League survival
For a promoted club to attract a player like Xhaka is incredible. The midfielder will easily be the best player at Sunderland and stand out massively on the field.
With survival now near impossible for a promoted side, Xhaka could easily be the difference between relegation and staying in the top-flight.

His experience, combined with his ability, would make him an asset for almost any team in the Premier League, let alone Sunderland.
Therefore, Le Bris must do absolutely everything in his power to get the deal done and send a transfer offer immediately.
The last thing Sunderland need is for another club to hijack the deal because the Black Cats have pondered for too long.
