Xhaka ‘ready for Premier League relegation scrap’ in new Sunderland transfer update

Sunderland have signed a host of young players ahead of their long-awaited Premier League return.

This has followed their strategy over the last few seasons, although now it is on a far grander scale.

Four out of six of the Black Cats’ signings are 21 or younger, while Reinildo Mandava is 31 and Enzo Le Fee is 25.

However, given Sunderland’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka, it seems they are targeting more experience.

Premier League move appeals to Xhaka

Iconic commentator Ian Darke told Mackem News that Xhaka would be a good signing for Sunderland, although he could cost them dearly.

Saudi Arabian side Neom SC reportedly had a bid rejected for the Swiss international, who has enjoyed a stellar stint in Germany.

Furthermore, West Ham have also been credited with interest in Xhaka as Graham Potter looks to shore up his squad.

After leaving Arsenal, Xhaka played a key role as Leverkusen lifted their first-ever Bundesliga trophy, remaining invincible throughout the entire season.

Now, the Black Cats have been given a boost in their pursuit of the 32-year-old after a recent update.

That is because a move to England would definitely appeal to the midfielder, even if he would possibly fight against relegation with Sunderland, according to SkySport.de (21 July).

They report that Leverkusen have already rejected an offer from the Wearsiders, although they plan to make a second bid.

Xhaka would be an immense signing for Sunderland

While the Black Cats’ transfer business has been encouraging, Regis Le Bris has a squad lacking in Premier League experience.

For a while, it seemed that Jordan Henderson would be the man to provide that, but he has since joined Brentford.

However, Xhaka would arguably be an even better option than the England international, given his form over the last few seasons.

The Swiss international has added steel to Leverkusen’s midfield, but also poses a significant threat going forward.

Le Bris needs players up for the relegation scrap, and it appears that Xhaka is.
