‘Wolves and Ajax aces to join Sunderland’ – Three Bellingham replacements
Jobe Bellingham’s departure from Sunderland is an early blow to their Premier League survival hopes.
Bellingham’s move to Borussia Dortmund was confirmed on Tuesday, ending the midfielder’s two-year stay at the Black Cats.
During this time, the midfielder had developed into one of Sunderland’s best players and was crucial in their promotion campaign.
As a result, Bellingham was named in the Championship Team of the Year for the 2024/25 campaign.
However, now Regis Le Bris must target replacements, and Mackem News has highlighted three potential signings the Frenchman could make.

Gus Hamer – Sheffield United
Gus Hamer has just come off the back of a fantastic season at Sheffield United.
The midfielder won the Championship Player of the Year as the Blades just missed out on promotion.
As a result, interest is high in the 27-year-old, with it unlikely that he will stay at Bramall Lane past the summer transfer window.

Therefore, Sunderland should look to join the race for the Dutchman if he is available.
On top of Hamer’s recent fantastic season, he has Premier League experience, which could prove to be vital in the next campaign.
At 27 years old, he is entering his prime and would easily be one of the Black Cats’ best players.

Jordan Henderson – Ajax
Henderson has long been linked with a move back to Sunderland this summer.
The Academy of Light graduate has had a fantastic career since he left the Black Cats, with his time at Liverpool being a highlight.
Now at Ajax, Henderson is expected to leave the Dutch giants this transfer window.
Henderson could reportedly move to Sunderland on a free this summer, and after Bellingham’s departure, Le Bris must speed up the signing.
The midfielder’s experience would be vital in the Premier League, especially with how young the Black Cats’ squad is.
Having a Premier League title and a Champions League winner in the team would do wonders for morale.
On top of this, Henderson is still a very capable player and would easily slide into the starting XI if he joined Sunderland.
Tommy Doyle – Wolves
Tommy Doyle has been previously linked to Sunderland after falling out of favour at Wolves.
The former Manchester City ace is believed to have plenty of potential and now has two years of Premier League experience under his belt.
With Vitor Pereira not playing the 23-year-old, he could be available for a cut price this summer.
This could be a fantastic, cheap transfer for Le Bris. The midfielder has a brilliant eye for a pass and also has leadership qualities after previously captaining England’s youth sides.
If available, Sunderland could do a lot worse than Doyle, who would likely be an immediate star player at the Stadium of Light.
