Woeful Omar Alderete footage emerges from Paraguay defeat before Sunderland star forced off injured
Sunderland ace Omar Alderete had a night to forget as Paraguay lost to South Korea on Tuesday.
Alderete signed for Sunderland from Getafe over the summer and has already proven to be a bargain at the Stadium of Light.
The centre-back has become a regular under Regis Le Bris, with even Alan Shearer speaking out in glowing terms about Alderete.
Alderete linked up with Paraguay for the international break for friendly clashes against Japan and South Korea.
The Black Cats are bound to be devastated after seeing Alderete be forced off, but they won’t exactly be pleased by what he did while on the pitch either.

Omar Alderete has howler for Paraguay vs South Korea
Le Bris will be furious that Alderete has suffered an injury after what has been such a positive start to life in the north east.
The 28-year-old has been a virtual ever-present since signing and has contributed significantly to several positive results.
His winner against Nottingham Forest only helped endear himself to the Mackems’ faithful in what was a statement victory for a newly promoted side.
The hope was that he could continue to kick on after the international break, with big Premier League clashes coming up.
Sunderland’s next five Premier League fixtures:
- Wolves (H)
- Chelsea (A)
- Everton (H)
- Arsenal (H)
- Fulham (A)
This looks to have taken a hit after coming off injured at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, as will his confidence after a shocking mix-up at the back.
Alderete and Junior Alonso were involved as neither defender cleared the ball efficiently before Swansea City’s Ji-Sung Eom was able to open the scoring easily.
Not a good look for the Sunderland man.
Sunderland await further update on Alderete fitness
Reports have emerged from Paraguay suggesting that the centre-back has suffered a muscle overload in his back.
Although this may be an initial suggestion, any truth in it could prove hugely damaging for Le Bris moving forward.
This sort of injury typically serves a recovery time of anywhere between three weeks to six months.
To be without a regular starter and an important member of the squad in the north east for such a sizable amount of time will represent a blow.
The Mackems will be hopeful that Alderete will be on the lower end of that scale as they look ahead to an important run of games ahead of the festive period.
