Winners and losers from Marc Guiu’s transfer to Sunderland include Wilson Isidor
Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Marc Guiu from Chelsea, someone they’re hopeful can become a reliable goalscorer in the Premier League.
Guiu’s loan transfer from Chelsea will see him become their ninth signing of an incredible summer transfer window.
The Black Cats are sending a statement of their intent to their Premier League rivals ahead of the new campaign, with the impending arrival of Guiu joining the likes of Granit Xhaka and Habib Diarra at the Stadium of Light.

It was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday that the 19-year-old will undergo a medical ahead of a switch to Sunderland, and here are the winners and losers from the transfer.

Winners from Marc Guiu’s transfer to Sunderland
Enzo Le Fee
Guiu only made three appearances in the Premier League last term for Chelsea and is relatively untested at the top level of English football.
However, with the amount of creativity in Regis Le Bris’ attack, the Spaniard won’t be starved of service, and Enzo Le Fee is someone who can provide it.
As a floating number 10 in Le Bris’ system, Le Fee will hover between the lines and use his accurate passing range to find Guiu in behind, something both players will benefit from.
Simon Adingra
Sunderland completed the signing of Simon Adingra from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this summer, and the Ivorian can benefit from Guiu’s arrival.
Primarily a left winger, Adingra is someone who likes to cut inside on his dangerous right foot and also whip crosses into the box.
Simon Adingra’s 2024/25 Premier League statistics | Total |
Appearances (starts) | 29 (12) |
Goals | 2 |
Expected goals (xG) | 2.46 |
Assists | 2 |
Touches | 20.4 |
Big chances created | 3 |
Guiu is a hulking presence in attack and someone capable of winning aerial duels, with the former Brighton man capable of firing ammunition his way.
Losers from Marc Guiu’s transfer to Sunderland
Wilson Isidor
Wilson Isidor was Sunderland’s top scorer last term in the Championship with 12, and the Frenchman will now want to impress in the Premier League.
However, the addition of Guiu will put his chances of starting in doubt, as Le Bris operates with just one striker in his system.
Chelsea demand that Guiu plays regularly or Sunderland have to pay a fee, and they will be keen to avoid that. So, with only one striker spot up for grabs, Isidor is naturally a loser in this instance.
Eliezer Mayenda
Eliezer Mayenda has signed a new five-year contract at Sunderland, putting to bed any rumours of him leaving the club.
Mayenda is an exciting, young forward who scored in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United and will now be eager to test himself in the top-flight.
The 20-year-old typically plays as a striker but can operate from wide, though the arrival of Guiu limits his chance to start centrally after scoring 10 goals in all competitions last term.
