Wilson Isidor’s Sunderland importance showcased by feat last achieved in 2012

Wilson Isidor has hit the ground running for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland have had a brilliant start to the Premier League campaign, and while they have several players to thank for that, Isidor is certainly towards the top of the list.

The 25-year-old has scored in every home game for the Black Cats, becoming the first player to do that since Darren Bent.

However, those goals have also seen him match a feat last achieved by Steven Fletcher, back in the 2012/13 Premier League season.

Sunderland can rely on Wilson Isidor for goals

Isidor has the best goals per minute ratio in the entire Premier League, with a goal every 78 minutes that he plays.

He scored again in Sunderland’s 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa, and by doing so, he has become Sunderland’s highest scorer after five Premier League games since Fletcher back in 2012.

Many had doubts over Isidor’s ability to adapt to Premier League football, but this start has seen many of those concerns subdued.

While the word downside may do him a disservice, the only one that can be used to describe his role at Sunderland would be his lack of general involvement in games.

The 25-year-old scored as many goals as he completed passes against Aston Villa (one), and to get the best out of him, Sunderland need to get the ball in the right areas far more often.

Creating chances for Wilson Isidor has to be the priority

Not only does Isidor have the best goals-to-minute ratio in the top flight, but he is also the biggest overachiever when it comes to xG.

Isidor is expected to have scored 1.02 goals from the chances he has had, and yet he has outperformed that by 1.98, showcasing his clinical nature in front of goal.

However, chance creation remains a concern for Sunderland, and if they can address that, Isidor could easily be the 20-goal-a-season triker they need him to be in order to stay in the Premier League.
