Wilson Isidor exit latest as Besiktas stance emerges after Sunderland talks

Wilson Isidor has been linked with a move away from Sunderland this window.

The Frenchman’s minutes have begun to drop after the emergent form of Brian Brobbey over recent weeks.

The Dutchman has scored three goals in his last four appearances, cementing himself as Regis Le Bris’ number one striker.

Turkish club Besiktas were in talks for Isidor over the last week, as they look to replace Tammy Abraham, who has now joined Aston Villa.

Talks looked to be advanced as Besiktas were preparing an offer for Isidor. However, there has now been another update in the Istanbul side’s hunt for the Black Cats’ striker.

New update in Wilson Isidor to Besiktas story

Losing Isidor without a replacement signed would not have been ideal for Le Bris, who has admitted the current striker situation in his squad is ‘perfect’.

The Sunderland manager has received some good news now, though, after an update on Besiktas’ stance has now been shared.

According to Fotospor, Besiktas are not willing to pay Sunderland’s asking price for Isidor, and that the chance of that transfer happening is now ‘close to zero’.

Reportedly, the Black Cats are requesting at least €25million (£21.6m) to allow the 25-year-old to depart before the deadline.

Le Bris will likely be delighted that Isidor looks set to stay at the Stadium of Light for the next few months.

However, the Mackems may not be safe in keeping all of their forward options anyway. Eliezer Mayenda is attracting interest from across Europe this transfer window.

Isidor staying is the right call for Sunderland

While Isidor will not be happy with his minutes at Sunderland, it was the completely right call from the club to demand as much as they did.

With just a few days left of the transfer window, signing a replacement would have been difficult. Sunderland have hopes of making European football, and having someone like Isidor, who knows the club and manager is much better than relying on a new signing.

The club could have turned to a young talent, but prospect Timur Tutierov had already gone on loan at Exeter City.

Isidor will still have his chances, and Brobbey’s newfound form may not last forever. If the Frenchman is given another chance up front for the Black Cats, he must take it.

Fans certainly know how crucial he could be to the team this season after he scored an important goal in last season’s play-off semi-final.
