Wilson Isidor could do something in Sunderland vs Aston Villa for first time since Darren Bent in 2010

Wilson Isidor could become a history maker at Sunderland this weekend.

Sunderland host Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light this weekend, with hopes of winning their third home game of the season.

Regis Le Bris faces a striker dilemma at Sunderland ahead of the clash, with Brian Brobbey his only option that hasn’t started a league game yet this season, though given his late arrival, that is not unexpected.

Isidor started last time out, and if afforded the chance to do so again, he could do something that hasn’t been achieved since Darren Bent 15 years ago.

Wilson Isidor has scored in both Sunderland home games

Isidor was on the scoresheet for Sunderland’s 3-0 win against West Ham on the opening day of the season, just as he was against Brentford.

His last-minute header against the Bees secured a second straight win at the Stadium of Light for the Black Cats in the Premier League, which was the first time they won two home games in a row in 24 years.

The Frenchman could make history again this weekend, with it revealed that the last person to score in each of Sunderland’s three opening home games was Bent in the 2010-11 season.

Bent’s record at Sunderland

Isidor could change that this weekend, though it will largely come down to whether he is handed the chance in the starting 11.

Brobbey is still waiting for his first start at Sunderland, leaving Le Bris with a tough decision to make.

Sunderland may get more from Wilson Isidor from the bench

Both of Isidor’s goals this season arrived from the bench.

He started Sunderland’s draw with Crystal Palace last time out, but failed to have much of an influence in the game.

Given the struggles that Villa have showcased so far this season, it is crucial that the Black Cats get off to a good start on Sunday, and there will be doubts as to whether Isidor will be best placed to support that.

Nevertheless, Isidor will be given a chance to make that record his own, regardless of when it comes.
