Why Romaine Mundle can have instant impact on Sunderland return as Regis Le Bris drops injury update
Several of Sunderland’s Championship heroes have failed to get many minutes under Regis Le Bris in the Premier League.
Dan Neil has rarely featured for Sunderland this season, with the arrival of Granit Xhaka affecting his game time, whilst Enzo Le Fee and Chris Rigg are being rotated in and out of the side frequently.
Sunderland have adapted brilliantly to Premier League football, and the impact of the new arrivals has seen members of the 2024-25 squad on the periphery.
As for Romaine Mundle, a hamstring injury suffered in July has left him sidelined ever since, yet Le Bris shed light on his current status in his most recent press conference.

Regis Le Bris provides update on Romaine Mundle injury status
Mundle sustained his injury during pre-season, having already had hamstring issues in the past at Sunderland.
The 22-year-old winger came through the Tottenham academy before eventually moving to the Stadium of Light in February 2024.
His emergence in the Championship was thrilling to watch, and he was influential in getting Sunderland into the playoff places under Le Bris.

In Thursday’s press conference ahead of Sunderland’s trip to Chelsea, Le Bris said: “Any player wants to be in the squad and the injury in Portugal was really disappointing for him because he worked really hard in the summer to be at his best level.
“He is really close, now. He had his last appointment with the specialist about his injury, and he was given the green light. So he should be connected with the squad within a couple of weeks.”
Mundle’s brilliance in the Championship dragged Sunderland through several key games, and his return to action will add another dimension of creativity to their attack.
With Mundle likely to be considered for contention after the November international break, Le Bris may consider starting him ahead of Sunderland’s current options.
Romaine Mundle could take advantage of struggling wingers
Sunderland’s wingers have been underwhelming in the Premier League, with Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi not showing what they are capable of.
Le Fee is the only winger to have scored this season, and that was a penalty during the 2-1 win over Brentford.
For all of the plaudits Sunderland are deservedly getting, there are still question marks over their chance creation from open play.
The introduction of Mundle to the starting lineup could certainly improve the lack of joy Sunderland have been getting down the left-hand side.
