Who is Marc Guiu? Sunderland book medical for striker after transfer agreement
Sunderland are looking increasingly likely to sign Marc Guiu over the coming weeks.
The Chelsea striker has struggled to make a breakthrough in the Premier League and could now be allowed to leave on loan.
Guiu has been linked with a host of Championship clubs this summer, but Sunderland’s Premier League pull has managed to convince the Spaniard to relocate to the Stadium of Light.
With his arrival imminent, Mackem News looks at who Guiu is and his road towards joining Premier League giants, Chelsea.

Guiu is an exciting prospect for Sunderland
Guiu found his gametime limited at Chelsea last season, but still made his minutes count as he contributed to six goals in 16 appearances.
As reported by Keith Dowie (31 July), Sunderland have agreed to sign Guiu on loan, with the forward set to travel to Wearside for his medical.
Games | Goal contributions |
48 | 20 |
- Prior to joining Chelsea, Guiu had managed 14 goal contributions in 30 appearances
- Guiu averages a goal contribution every 99.45 minutes across his career
- In comparison, Wilson Isidor managed a goal contribution every 208 minutes last season
Guiu started off his playing career at Barcelona after spending time with the Spanish giants between 2013 and 2023, before breaking into the first team squad.
With Barca required to sell players last summer, Guiu was sold to Chelsea.
On 18 August, he made his debut for the club, as a substitute, in a 2–0 loss against Manchester City in the Premier League.
He went on to find his gametime limited in the league, but found form in the UEFA Conference League, where he managed to score a first-half hat-trick in a 5-1 win against Shamrock Rovers.
Guiu could play alongside Guiu next season
For what Wilson Isidor doesn’t do in terms of scoring, he makes up for in his endeavour.
With the Mackems adding a lot of firepower to their attack with the likes of Simon Adingra already arriving through the door, it remains to be seen where the Frenchman’s future lies.
However, with a bit of clinicalism next to him in Guiu, it wouldn’t be surprising to see their potential partnership prove fruitful next season.
