What Wilson Isidor said after scoring 96th minute winner vs Brentford
Sunderland showed plenty of character in their 2-1 comeback win against Brentford on Saturday.
Both sides played out a cagey first half, with the game pretty even, before a completely different affair in the second half, with penalties and last-minute drama.
Robin Roefs saved Kevin Schade’s penalty, but the Bees still took the lead minutes later with Igor Thiago firing home at the Stadium of Light.
However, a penalty from Enzo Le Fee and a 96th-minute winner from Wilson Isidor stole the show.

Wilson Isidor dedicates goal to his newborn daughter
Sunderland’s last-minute antics will be a huge boost given the circumstances in which they lost to Burnley last weekend.
VAR decisions and refereeing controversy dominated the game, with Brentford denied an early goal and both sides having penalty appeals waved away.
However, there was nothing controversial about Isidor’s late strike as he headed home from Granit Xhaka’s guided cross.
The 25-year-old has dedicated his late winner to his newborn daughter, who arrived yesterday.
Speaking to Premier League reporter Andy Sixsmith after the game, Isidor said: “No words. The last 24 hours has been a rush.
“My daughter came. I didn’t sleep, and today I scored the winner in the Premier League for the team I love the most. This is for the fans, my daughter and my partner. Of course, my daughter is a Mackem.”
- Isidor averaged a goal every 236.8 minutes in the 2024/25 season
- So far, he is averaging a goal every 33.5 minutes this season
There had been rumours that Isidor was on his way out this summer, but he has since silenced his critics.
The former France under-20 international has bagged two goals this season despite playing just 67 minutes across three Premier League games.
Regis Le Bris has so far favoured Eliezer Mayenda up front, but he could change his mind after Isidor showed that he can perform in the top-flight.
Wilson Isidor to replace Eliezer Mayenda for Crystal Palace game
Before the game against Brentford, Mayenda had completed just two passes from three attempts this season, in two games.
Mayenda looked poor during pre-season, as he lacked clinicality in an uncertain period for the Spaniard.
Other than the 20-year-old’s goal against West Ham, he has struggled this season and could benefit from a spell on the bench, with less pressure put on him.
The international break has come at the wrong time for Isidor, but it still wouldn’t be a surprise to see Le Bris play the Frenchman against Crystal Palace in their next fixture.
