What Ajax are demanding for Brian Brobbey as Sunderland submit bid for striker

Sunderland are facing a race against time to get a striker through the door on transfer deadline day.

After capturing Marc Guiu on loan from Chelsea earlier in the window, Sunderland were rocked by news coming out of Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea have asked to recall Guiu from his loan at the Stadium of Light following the injury to Liam Delap, and now Regis Le Bris is on the hunt for a replacement.

With less than 12 hours left until the window slams shut, Sunderland are moving to sign Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.

Ajax want £21.6m for Brian Brobbey

It emerged late on Sunday night that Sunderland were interested in signing the 23-year-old as a strong, quick and devastating option at the top end of the pitch.

But after submitting an enquiry for the talented centre-forward, the Black Cats are required to pay £21.6million for his services.

That is according to established Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who claims that an offer has been submitted but Le Bris will have to move quickly to finalise a deal.

Brobbey was left out of Ajax’s squad that drew 1-1 against FC Volendam on Saturday, and after a conversation with John Heitinga, the coach concluded that the Amsterdam native wasn’t focused.

So, it seems increasingly likely that Brobbey could end up on Wearside before the 7pm deadline, and fill the void of Guiu’s pending departure.

Brian Brobbey’s goal record

In their quest for Premier League survival, Sunderland require extra firepower in attack, and Brobbey is someone who can provide that.

The powerful Dutch striker has averaged a goal involvement in almost one every two matches, displaying his ability to score and assist regularly.

163 appearances
56 goals
24 assists

Should Sunderland successfully capture the 8-cap Netherlands international, they will hope he can fire the goals that will keep them in the top flight.

Ultimately, Le Bris needs a reliable goalscorer to stand any chance of finishing above the bottom three, as currently, he’s relying on goals from across the pitch.

Brobbey is someone at a good age who looks ready for the physical and technical challenges Premier League football has to offer.
