‘We’ve done it again’… Sunderland fans stunned by ‘unbelievable’ player vs Augsburg

Sunderland have been praised for their business completed ahead of the Premier League season.

The Black Cats have already spent north of £100million, including the record-breaking arrival of Habib Diarra.

Sunderland defeated Augsburg 1-0 in pre-season, with Diarra bagging the winning goal for the North East side.

However, it was another player who stole the headlines as supporters raved about his performance on social media.

Robin Roefs impresses for Sunderland against Augsburg

Eliezer Mayenda struggled in Sunderland’s latest pre-season clash and is yet to bag a goal this summer.

The Wearsiders continued their preparations for the Premier League with a welcome win against Augsburg.

Le Bris’ side had not won since their victory over South Shields in mid-July, but will want to carry this win forward.

The result could have been oh so different if it were not for Roefs, who saved Phillip Tietz’s penalty in the 27th minute.

His exploits meant that the Black Cats maintained their 1-0 advantage and saw out the win at the WWK Arena.

Roefs joined Sunderland from NEC Nijmegen for a reported £9million plus add-ons, which could be an absolute steal if he continues his fine form.

Now, the Wearside faithful have been voicing their jubilation at the 22-year-old, who is set to start in the Premier League opener.

Will Roefs play ahead of Anthony Patterson this season?

Patterson has been Sunderland’s undisputed number one for three and a half seasons, but that could be about to change.

The Englishman has been out injured in pre-season and is yet to appear for the North East outfit.

While he has had his shaky moments, his save in the play-off final is one of the main reasons why the Wearsiders are a Premier League club.

However, Roefs is a different profile of goalkeeper and makes up for what Patterson lacks in his attributes.

With Patterson still sidelined, Roefs is set to start in goal against West Ham next weekend.

On current evidence, it seems that he is deserving of the opportunity, but he will need to continue his fine form.
