West Ham vs Sunderland Premier League result predicted by supercomputer
Sunderland are looking to compound West Ham’s misery when the sides meet on Saturday.
Regis Le Bris‘ side will travel to the London Stadium on 24 January, trying to keep up the momentum from their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Sunderland were expected to be relegation candidates at the start of the season, but they have exceeded those predictions and sit ninth in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Irons are in serious danger of going down to the Championship, sitting five points from safety with 16 matches to play.
What does the supercomputer think will happen in West Ham vs Sunderland?
The Stadium of Light outfit will be hoping that they can overcome Nuno’s relegation candidates, but it may not be as easy as first thought.
The Opta Analyst supercomputer has predicted a Hammers victory with a 39.3 per cent chance of the hosts coming out on top.
| Result | Percentage |
| West Ham win | 39.3% |
| Sunderland win | 34.1% |
| Draw | 26.6% |
The Black Cats have been handed a 34.1 per cent chances of beating the strugglers, with a draw the least likely outcome at just 26.6 per cent.
Why Sunderland should still be confident
The supercomputer’s prediction is just that, a prediction, and it could definitely prove to be wrong when the sides face off.
Mackems should be confident that they can beat the Hammers, as they have conceded the most goals in the top-flight in this campaign, with 44 allowed in 22 games.
They have not kept a clean sheet in any of the 17 matches that Nuno has managed for them, which is another reason for Le Bris’ side to feel good.
Nuno’s side have conceded 12 headed goals in the league, and the Stadium of Light outfit will surely fancy their chances of adding to that, given their vast array of aerial threats.
Even if the North East side concedes first, they should still believe that they should win, as they have won 16 points from losing positions, with only Aston Villa (18) doing better than that.
The Mackems last secured a double against their latest opposition in 2010-11, in a campaign which saw the East London side relegated from the division.
That is ominous for Hammers supporters, but Black Cats fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic heading into the clash.
