West Brom hold talks over Nectar Triantis deal amid Hibernian dilemma – Exclusive

Nectar Triantis is a man in demand this summer as West Brom become the latest side to show an interest in the Sunderland ace, Mackem News understands.

Having joined Sunderland as a centre-back, Triantis has since been transformed into a very competent defensive midfielder after two seasons on loan at Hibernian.

The Australian thrived in Scotland, especially in his second season, where he won Hibernian’s Young Player of the Year award last time out.

However, the future of Triantis remains in doubt at the Stadium of Light, and there is a chance that he could be on the move from Sunderland this summer.

Several Championship clubs want to sign Triantis

Portsmouth and Derby are just two of six Championship clubs who are said to be interested in Triantis, and Mackem News understands that West Brom are the latest to have discussed his transfer internally.

The Baggies have not yet made a formal approach and are awaiting reassurance from the Australian before making a move, which is said to be a loan deal if the 22-year-old gives the green light.

Triantis still wants to fight for his place under Regis Le Bris, though if he is to move on, it is believed that he will be prioritising a return to Hibernian, where he spent two successful campaigns.

Several clubs have expressed interest on a permanent deal, but it will likely be a loan exit that Sunderland sanction if they are successful in their search for defensive recruits this summer.

Triantis may be one year away from breaking into Sunderland first team.

With another year of senior experience under his belt, Triantis may well be able to force his way into Le Bris’ plans.

His versatility will only aid that, but his role as a six is something the Black Cats do not have too many options in, especially if Dan Neil leaves Sunderland

While a permanent exit has been mooted, a loan for the Australian would be beneficial for both parties.
