Wes Brown awestruck at what he’s noticed about Sunderland fans – Exclusive

Wes Brown is hoping to see Sunderland return to the Premier League when they face Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.

After 48 games, it has all come down to one final game for Sunderland, who could make their return to the top flight for the first time since 2016 if they can beat Sheffield United at Wembley.

The Black Cats have had an excellent campaign, though without a win in the play-off final, all of that hard work will amount to nothing.

Sunderland are 90 minutes away from Premier League football

This weekend in London will be electric, and with over 36,000 Sunderland fans expected to be in attendance, the stakes couldn’t be any higher.

The Premier League is a better place with Sunderland in it, and Brown has emphasised how the supporters deserve to see their side back in the top flight.

Speaking to Mackem News, courtesy of Best Betting Sites, he said: “I get that many will believe that nobody ‘belongs’ anywhere – you earn it on the pitch. But listen, the fans at Sunderland are so passionate. If you look at the attendances across the leagues they’ve been in, theirs are by far the highest. This club has the stature to do it.

How Sunderland fared in the regular Championship season.

“Sunderland are a club that have the history. Even how they got back to the Premier League in the first place from being out for many years. The club and the fans definitely earned the right to feel like they deserve to be there. I completely understand that.

“And it’s not just a case of it being just an opinion of theirs. It’s a state of mind. It’s the belief that is driving them forward from where they once were. Do you know why they say that? Have you ever been to Sunderland? Believe me, Sunderland is football, and that’s it.

“It doesn’t matter if you go into the local shop, it doesn’t matter if you go to a restaurant. The whole place is just focused on football. It’s absolutely brilliant. And that’s the reason they say that, I would say. They turn up every week regardless of where they are, or who they’re playing, and you have to give them credit for that.”

Wearsiders deserve to taste success

Being a Sunderland fan has served up more challenges than rewards for the past decade, though that could all come to an end this Saturday.

Promotion will be huge for Sunderland, and if they can bring Premier League football back to the Stadium of Light, it would serve as a huge boost on and off the pitch.
