View: Tommy Watson has chance to shine after 0% Romaine Mundle stinker in Sunderland v QPR

Romaine Mundle embodied Sunderland’s frustration in the goalless draw away at QPR on Saturday – and Tommy Watson may benefit from it.

Mundle has been a key player for Sunderland under Regis Le Bris this season but his performance against QPR was poor.

With games coming thick and fast, Wednesday’s (6 November) trip to Preston could be the perfect opportunity to have some fresh legs on the left flank and Watson would be first in line.

Romaine Mundle will be crucial for Sunderland promotion hopes

There is no doubt that Mundle will be one of the key players behind any promotion push this season but there will be times when he needs to be taken out of the team and Wednesday could be that time.

The former Spurs academy prospect recorded a zero per cent dribble success rate against QPR, according to FotMob, with Jimmy Dunne doing an excellent job of nullifying any threat.

Mundle also failed to complete a single cross out of four attempted, or long pass throughout the game.

One area that Mundle has excelled at is his off-the-ball play. His contributions defensively have usually been very solid and suited to the way Le Bris sets his side up to play but again, against QPR, it was poor.

Of the 10 duels he was involved in, he lost nine of them and committed three fouls.

Watson has been waiting for his chance patiently having impressed consistently at youth level and he may get that opportunity to showcase his talent in the coming games.

Having been linked with a move to Brighton in the summer (Craig Hope), Watson has plenty of potential and Sunderland can utilise that.
