View: Sunderland could suffer v Coventry amid development this week

Coventry City announced the surprise sacking of manager Mark Robins and Sunderland could either benefit or suffer as a result.

Coventry haven’t had the greatest start to their Championship campaign but the news released on the club site on Thursday, 7 November provided a huge shock to not only Coventry supporters but the wider footballing community.

Robins was the longest-serving manager in the league prior to his dismissal and his departure could go either way for Sunderland on Saturday.

Will Sunderland benefit from Mark Robin’s dismissal?

Usually, when a manager is dismissed for a poor run of form, players are keen to impress a potential new boss in their following fixture. Which just so happens to be Sunderland.

However, things might pan out very differently on Saturday, 9 November as it is yet to be seen how the players react to Robin’s departure.

It was well known that Robins was a popular figure at the Sky Blues and had strong relationships with the players. Supporters have expressed their dismay at the decision made by the club’s owners, there is every possibility that the players will share a similar feeling when they travel to the Stadium of Light.

Nonetheless, Sunderland will have to be at the top of their game at the weekend to get back to winning ways.

A 0-0 draw against Preston provided a poor performance by the standards set earlier in the season and Regis Le Bris will be keen to ensure his side don’t replicate that at home.

In other Sunderland news, Aaron Connolly was handed his first start against Preston but failed to make it count as the Black Cats were held to a second successive 0-0 draw.
