Unai Emery makes ‘difficult’ admission ahead of Sunderland vs Aston Villa showdown
Unai Emery’s side are looking for their first three points of the season when they travel to face Sunderland.
Sunderland are the underdogs for Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, though, as we have seen on many occasions this season, that will favour the Black Cats.
Even in the Championship, Regis Le Bris’ side proved their doubters wrong weekly, and will be looking to do that again throughout the season as they look towards Premier League survival.
Ahead of the clash at the Stadium of Light, Emery has spoken out on what he expects to see from the Wearsiders.

Sunderland motivation lauded by Unai Emery
Sunderland have picked up seven points from a possible 12 so far this season, and at that rate, the Black Cats have given themselves an excellent start when it comes to their battle against relegation.
Many have identified the excitement around the place as a big reason behind their impressive start, and it is hard to disagree.
There is a sense of optimism on Wearside, and that translates into the players on the pitch, as seen by the fact that they have won both of their opening home games for the first time since 2001.
Sunderland vs Aston Villa head-to-head
- Sunderland wins – 55
- Draws – 46
- Aston Villa wins – 83
It is that feeling at Sunderland that Emery has alluded to when looking ahead to Sunday’s game at the Stadium of Light.
As quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “It will be difficult. They are excited and motivated. I watched their documentary on Netflix about their recent history. They are so, so motivated.”
Sunderland will have added motivation against Aston Villa with the clash dedicated to the Bradley Lowery Foundation, with a display planned pre-match.

Sunderland can pile pressure on Unai Emery
Aston Villa aren’t exactly in turmoil, and after just four games, there isn’t an awful lot to be concerned about.
However, a fifth game without a win would be a major concern for the Villans, and Emery would surely start feeling the heat if that were to be the case.
A defeat would only amplify those concerns for Aston Villa and would see some fans start questioning Emery’s position as manager.
As for Sunderland, the pressure is almost entirely on the visitors for this one, and that will play into their hands.
