Triantis now set to leave Sunderland in ‘club-record transfer’

Nectarios Triantis has spent the last year and a half in the Scottish Premiership with Hibs.

The Australian midfielder has become a bit of a fan favourite at Easter Road and helped the Edinburgh club qualify for Europe last season.

Now, the 22-year-old is set to return to the Stadium of Light this week as his loan move comes to an end.

However, speculation around Triantis is yet to disperse.

Hibs aiming to sign Triantis for club-record fee

With June coming to an end, any Sunderland players who remained out on loan have now returned.

With the Premier League season approaching, Regis Le Bris has a decision to make on what to do with stars such as Triantis.

Reportedly, two MLS sides are looking to sign Triantis after another decent campaign in the Scottish Premiership.

However, according to the Daily Record (30 June), the Australian could be set for a return to Hibs.

The Edinburgh side are keen on re-signing Triantis either on loan or permanently.

A club-record fee is believed to be needed for the latter, which stands at around £700k, with Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and German side St Pauli also keen.

However, Triantis’ departure is not guaranteed this summer, and he wants to get a chance at Sunderland.

The midfielder is aiming to impress Le Bris before he makes a decision on his future.

Triantis could be a good option for Le Bris

While Triantis is unlikely to be good enough to start for Sunderland in the upcoming season, he could be a good option for Le Bris.

The Black Cats are likely to endure a long campaign, with many twists and turns.

Therefore, if any injuries do occur, it could end up costing Sunderland.

Triantis could help prevent this issue, with the Australian clearly possessing a good ability.

Hopefully, the 22-year-old will be able to prove this to Le Bris in pre-season.
