Sunderland are set to continue to make deals as transfer deadline day approaches.

Regis Le Bris has brought in numerous signings to date and looks likely to make more before the window closes on 1 September.

Sunderland are pursuing Jhon Lucumi from Bologna, with a bid placed in the hope of capturing the defender.

However, departures could also happen at the Stadium of Light before Monday’s deadline.

Trey Ogunsuyi close to completing loan move away from Sunderland

Sunderland’s academy has produced some excellent players in recent years.

Trey Ogunsuyi is aiming to be another success, with the 18-year-old having plenty of potential.

As a result, Liverpool were chasing Ogunsuyi last season. However, Sunderland managed to keep hold of the forward.

  • Ogunsuyi has come through Sunderland's academy
  • The 18-year-old made his first-team debut in the 2-1 defeat to Stoke City last season in the FA Cup
  • The forward is a Belgium Under 19s international

Recently, Ogunsuyi has been tipped to leave Sunderland on loan, and now the transfer saga has developed further.

According to James Copley via X on 29 August, the 18-year-old is now “very close” to moving up to Scotland on loan.

While it is unknown which club will be taking on the youngster, the Sunderland Echo journalist confirmed that the forward was at the Academy of Light on Friday, touching base with staff and teammates before the move.

Trey Ogunsuyi could become a star in Scotland

If the move goes through, there is nothing stopping Ogunsuyi from becoming a star north of the border.

The forward does need more first team football after demolishing the academy with his clinical finishing.

Hopefully, the 18-year-old will be moving to the Scottish Premiership, where he can compete against some quality opposition.

If so, it could be a major step in helping Ogunsuyi to reach a first-team level at Sunderland.

Le Bris no doubt has a plan for the youngster, and this will hopefully come to fruition over the next few years.
