Sunderland are undergoing a hectic transfer deadline deal after the developments on Marc Guiu.

Chelsea reached an agreement with Sunderland for Guiu to return to West London after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury.

Sunderland have since made progress with Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida, with the pair expected to arrive on Wearside.

However, the Black Cats may not stop there as they eye another player before the impending deadline.

Sunderland could sign another winger before the transfer deadline

Sunderland made early moves to sign Armand Lauriente this summer, but the deal collapsed in the final stages.

The Wearsiders signed Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra this summer, and both have been regular starters under Regis Le Bris.

However, beyond the recent acquisitions, the Black Cats are a bit short with Romaine Mundle out injured for a lengthy period.

Enzo Le Fee played on the right against Brentford and delivered a man-of-the-match performance in the 2-1 win.

However, Michael Graham reports on X that we know for a fact that Sunderland want another winger because of how far the Lauriente deal got.

The sports journalist adds that he would expect them to still be trying today, on 1 September.

Would there be a domino effect if another winger arrived at the Stadium of Light?

Looking at Sunderland's squad, it is more likely that the Wearsiders would sign a left-winger for Le Bris.

On the right, the North East club have Talbi, Patrick Roberts, and Ian Poveda, although the latter has no future at the Stadium of Light.

However, on the left, Adingra and Mundle are the only natural options, while Le Fee can easily play there too.

  • Poveda and Roberts could leave before the deadline
  • Lauriente was eyed as a versatile option to play on the left or as a striker
  • Sunderland are close to replacing Guiu with Brobbey

As previously mentioned, Mundle will be out for months after undergoing surgery ahead of the Premier League campaign.

After the deal for Lauriente fell through, Le Bris did insist that the Black Cats need to sign another winger, so Graham's words could come to fruition.

However, the Wearsiders must act with haste if they are to secure another signing before the deadline.
