Sunderland are reportedly in the race to sign Barcelona wonderkid Roony Bardghji, and it could pose a threat to Nilson Angulo.

The Black Cats have started summer preparations, with the need for new signings now more important due to Europa League qualification.

According to the Chronicle on Friday, Regis Le Bris' side are one of multiple clubs interested in signing Bardghji, who is set to leave Nou Camp this summer.

The 20-year-old is well known for being a classic wonderkid on the video game title "Football Manager", holding immense potential for future development.

Sunderland could sign Bardghji, but that would make things a little more complicated for their forward line, and especially for Angulo.

Barcelona's exit conditions for Roony Bardghji

Barcelona are willing to offload Bardghji on a permanent deal this summer, but the player's preference is said to be a loan exit.

The Swede had a lack of starts under Hansi Flick last term, and at this stage of his career, he needs first-team minutes.

But the same could be said about Angulo, who hasn't cemented himself in the starting eleven since returning to the Stadium of Light in January.

Though his minutes picked up towards the last few games of the season, where Sunderland had some big results, the Ecuadorian didn't

That's not to say he's a write off, but more so that he could struggle for crucial minutes next season, especially if Sunderland land Bardghji.

It's possible that the Black Cats could sanction a loan exit for Angulo if certain transfers fall into place.

The hurdle in Sunderland's way for Bardghji

Sunderland's potential move for Bardghji isn't straightforward as it seems, and that's due to the interest elsewhere in the right-winger.

Leeds United, Brentford, Aston Villa, Brighton and Everton are all monitoring the Barca talent, who wants to one day be a success for the Catalonian giants.

While Sunderland will need added depth next season, they are already pretty stocked as it is on the flanks, as Bardghji's arrival would cause complications.

It feels as if a deal was done, Le Bris could advise that Angulo is loaned out, as his quality would be able to shine bright at a Championship club for example.

If not, the Mackems risk wasting what could be a very important campaign of the 22-year-old's career, and nobody wants that.
