Sunderland make approach to seal Arthur Avom transfer, he's Noah Sadiki 2.0
Sunderland are flying on a high right now as they prepare for Europe and another season of Premier League football.
The Black Cats’ 2-1 victory over Chelsea on the final day of the season secured the Europa League at the Stadium of Light.
Celebrations were wild, but attention will immediately turn to producing an improved squad to compete at all levels.
That is where Arthur Avom comes in, with Sunderland ready to bolster their squad now.
Arthur Avom wanted by Sunderland
Midfield is where Sunderland thrived last season, with Grant Xhaka and Noah Sadiki two of the very best in the Premier League.
With Habib Diarra somewhat struggling at times and Dan Neil set for the exit, another option to rotate and provide competition is critical.
Gianluigi Longari has now reported that Sunderland have made an approach to FC Lorient, requesting information on Avom.
With strengths in ground duels, but weaknesses in the air, that is perfect for what Le Bris looks for, as his defence ticks the latter box and more.
It won’t be a straightforward deal though, with Bournemouth also making a move.
Premier League trend proves Sunderland spot on
In recent years, many have tagged the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford as some of the smartest recruiters in the country.
That has led to consistent challenges for European football, something that Sunderland can now also say they’ve done.
Avom isn’t exactly a Lorient star, but he clearly has the potential.
Having started 22 of 31 appearances, he only averaged 68 minutes in each game he featured in last season in Ligue 1.
Recovering over four balls per game, with his total duels won over 50 per cent, he is a pitbull-like midfielder who could free up the likes of Xhaka, similar to Sadiki.
Despite only being 21, Avom has 14 senior international caps for Cameroon, and could be the perfect signing to add serious depth and skill at the Stadium of Light.
If Sadiki had the perfect first season in Sunderland, Avom could be about to become 2.0
