Sunderland forward to join EFL club in January as terms agreed for loan exit
Sunderland are set to loan out youth prospect Timur Tutierov.
Following their promotion from the Championship, Sunderland spent more than £160million on transfers to prepare for life in the Premier League.
Such is their comfort in the English top flight, Regis Le Bris’ side have not brought in any January recruits, with the Black Cats sitting 10th in the table.
Sunderland academy star Dan Neil has been linked with an exit from the Stadium of Light, Jay Matete has completed a permanent switch to MK Dons, and Timothee Pembele has joined Le Havre on loan.
While the incoming side of things remains quiet, new reports suggest winger Tutierov could be heading for a short-term Sunderland exit in the coming days.
Sunderland youngster set for League One switch
Tutierov joined Sunderland from Ukrainian side Kolos in 2024 but is yet to make his first-team debut.
The 20-year-old has featured regularly for the club's Under-21 side this season, scoring seven goals and adding an assist in 13 appearances.
Now, according to Ukrainian publication Football24, the Ukraine Under-21 international is primed to join League One team Exeter City on loan for the rest of the season.
The winger has been named in Sunderland's Premier League matchday squad on four occasions but he has remained an unused substitute.
Now, the Mackems believe a move down the English football pyramid would be the best plan to further his development.
Sunderland urged to offload fringe players
Many predicted that Sunderland would go straight back down but that has been anything but the case this season.
In fact, Sunderland are almost safe from relegation already, with Le Bris' men sitting a whopping 16 points clear of the bottom three.
Their progress has shocked many but with that sharp rise, there are always going to be casualties. Indeed, the likes of Luke O'Nien, Dennis Cirkin, Neil, and more, have been on the fringes this term.
As a result, Sunderland have been told to sell some of their out-of-favour players to free up funds this summer.
Finance expert Dan Plumley told Mackem News, "They can take offers for some of these fringe players where if they were in the thick of a relegation battle and in the bottom three, they might not be taking those offers.
“I think it really just depends on the strategy, but I think the on-pitch performance of the club is a huge factor within that.
“They’re giving themselves a platform to stay in the league, which means that you can just start to look a little bit further ahead and at least put a budget scenario down for being a Premier League club next season.”
