Sunderland’s upcoming transfer window could be the most important in their recent history.

Regis Le Bris’ side are just weeks away from the Premier League if they can overcome the playoffs to win promotion.

It would no doubt be a sensational achievement given the club’s awful end to last season.

However, no matter how this campaign ends, the upcoming transfer window could dictate the Black Cats’ long-term future.

If they reach the Premier League, multiple incomings would be needed to keep them in the division. However, if they stay down, it could be a battle to keep their biggest stars.

Now, the club has been backed to make its first signing of the summer by facilitating the return of Jayden Danns.

Sunderland could re-sign Jayden Danns this summer

Danns was brought into Sunderland in February on loan from Liverpool. The 19-year-old is believed to have plenty of potential and was set to help in the promotion push.

However, the attacker has not had a chance to showcase his talents to the Stadium of Light faithful.

The Liverpool loanee has been injured due to a back problem, and Danns is not expected to feature before the end of the campaign.

However, the Black Cats have been backed to re-sign Danns in the summer.

According to the Sunderland Echo (1 May), Regis Le Bris may look to agree on another loan deal for the attacker in the summer.

Signing Jayden Danns would only make sense if Sunderland aren’t promoted

In the Championship, Danns would be a good signing. The youngster clearly has ability, and could be a good backup option.

It is a shame that he has been injured at Sunderland, but it would make sense for the club to go back in for him if they remain in the second tier.

However, if they are promoted, the Premier League will likely be out of Danns’ depth.

Given how the recently promoted teams have fared in the top-flight, it would have to be an excellent window for the Black Cats to keep them up.

Inexperienced players such as Danns would simply not be effective, especially after his recent long-term injury.
