Nazariy Rusyn set for Sunderland exit as details of transfer emerge from Poland

Alex is a lifelong Sunderland supporter who's been reporting on Mackem News since April 2025. Indeed, he started working for Breaking Media in April and has since graduated from St Mary's University as a NCTJ Gold Standard-accredited journalist, having completed his Master's degree in Sports Journalism. Alex previously worked for Football League World and has featured on the Roker Report, providing his opinion on all things Sunderland. While getting to the games is tricky, given his job, one of the highlights of his life was watching (and crying) as the Black Cats defeated Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium last season.

Sunderland could sanction several deals before the deadline, with Nazariy Rusyn to trigger a domino effect.

Regis Le Bris has a bloated squad at the Stadium of Light, and a host of players could leave before the window closes.

Rusyn is among that contingent at Sunderland, having failed to make an impact since his £2.5million move from Zorya Lugansk.

Now, the Ukrainian is set to jet out of the North East club as the details of his proposed move have been shared.

Nazariy Rusyn set to leave Sunderland on loan for Poland

That means that Rusyn could fall even further down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.

Since arriving from Ukraine, the 26-year-old has struggled to find any sort of form, but has always put in maximum effort in red and white.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Croatian side Hadjuk Split, where he continued to flounder.

  • Rusyn has two goals in 32 Sunderland appearances
  • He failed to score while on loan with Hajduk Split
  • The forward scored 13 league goals in the 2022/23 campaign for Zorya

Now, all signs point to Rusyn becoming Arka Gdynia's new striker, according to Polish journalist Kamil Betkowski on 1 August.

Furthermore, the striker is set to be loaned until the end of the season in what has been described as a big move for the newcomers to the Polish top flight.

Who could follow Nazariy Rusyn out of the Stadium if Light?

There is a long list of players who could depart Wearside before the transfer window closes.

Milan Aleksic and Ahmed Abdullahi are two fairly recent acquisitions at the Stadium of Light and could also leave on loan.

Moreover, several players on the periphery could leave in some capacity, including Abdoullah Ba, Ian Poveda, Timothee Pembele, Joe Anderson, and Jay Matete.

Championship clubs are likely to have their eyes on some of the Black Cats' fringe players, including Patrick Roberts and Alan Browne.

With the clock ticking, Sunderland should be looking to trim their squad down even further.
