Florent Ghisolfi adds to Sunderland transfer team with new behind-the-scenes hire
Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi has seemingly added to his technical team at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats enjoyed a memorable return to the Premier League in the 2025/26 season under Regis Le Bris.
Sunderland upset the pre-season pundits who tipped them for relegation to earn a hugely impressive seventh-place finish in the top flight.
A final-day victory over Chelsea sealed that position, and also meant Sunderland earned qualification for the Europa League next term.
As such, it is expected to be a hugely busy summer for the backroom team, with incomings and outgoings sure to occur.
And Ghisolfi has added to his team to help in that regard, according to reports emerging on Friday.
Sunderland bring in new technical personnel
It is no secret that Sunderland spent big last summer as they sought to strengthen for their return to the top flight.
The Black Cats spent over £180million adding to their squad, a risky tactic that ultimately proved to be the right one.
Things will only get tougher, though, as Sunderland have to prepare a squad to cope with the rigours of mixing a Premier League campaign with European football.
To help with that task, prominent Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported that Sunderland have hired former Juventus executive Matteo Serra.
Serra most recently worked at PAOK Salonica in Greece, and Moretto says his remit will be dealing with player exits and loans.
Who will Matteo Serra help to sell at Sunderland this summer?
Sunderland fans will obviously want to see the squad improved in the coming weeks.
But, as sure as night follows day, there will always be players who leave the club as well as who join.
Eliezer Mayenda seems on the more obvious candidates to exit the Stadium of Light, and he has been linked with a move to Rennes in France.
Fellow striker Wilson Isidor is another tipped to leave, and top-flight rivals such as Everton and Leeds United have previously been credited with a move.
Goalkeeper Robin Roefs has courted apparent interest from Chelsea, though there are positive signs that Sunderland's number one will stay put.
Brian Brobbey, excelling with Netherlands at the World Cup, is also attracting reported interest from clubs around Europe, though again there is hope Sunderland will reject those overtures.
