Sunderland are set to remain active in the transfer window going into the final days of activity.

Regis Le Bris is currently on the hunt for new signings, with Sunderland currently pursuing Jhon Lucumi.

However, departures could also occur, with the Black Cats having plenty of players who could leave the club.

Trey Ogunsuyi has recently left Sunderland to join Falkirk on loan, and now, the Frenchman could oversee further departures.

Derby could make cash offer for Patrick Roberts

Patrick Roberts was crucial to Sunderland’s promotion last season, with the winger playing 48 times in all competitions.

However, the 28-year-old is now a victim of his own success, with the midfielder now struggling to get into the starting XI in the top-flight.

On top of this, Roberts was poor in the recent Carabao Cup defeat to Huddersfield, which has only damaged his chances of regaining a starting spot.

  • Roberts played in 45 out of a possible 46 Championship matches last season
  • The winger picked up 10 goal contributions in all competitions
  • Roberts has struggled for game time since promotion

As a result, according to the Sun on Sunday, page 55 on 31 August, several Championship clubs are interested in the winger on a possible loan deal.

Derby County are one of the teams pursuing Roberts and could make a cash offer to win the race for his signature.

Patrick Roberts isn’t good enough for the Premier League

The 28-year-old proved this against Huddersfield, with the midfielder struggling against the League One outfit.

Le Bris has to be ruthless if the Black Cats are to stay in the division, and this has already paid off in the opening matches, with Sunderland picking up six points from three games.

Therefore, Roberts may be better off moving on this summer, as it is hard to see when he may have another chance in the first team.
