Trai Hume sends message after confirmed Sunderland departure
Sunderland announced the departure of a first-team player earlier in the week.
Sunderland did not have the most eventful winter window despite the position they were in at the time, with Jayden Danns and Enzo Le Fee the only arrivals.
In typical Wearside fashion, both players are currently sidelined at the Stadium of Light, though both are still expected to have a part to play in the season.
A handful of players were allowed to depart Sunderland, though the latest exit has come as somewhat of a surprise given the timing of the deal.

Sunderland confirm Jewison Bennette exit
Life on Wearside has been tough for Jewison Bennette this season, with the Costa Rican international failing to make a single matchday squad in league competition, with his only appearance coming in the EFL Cup defeat to Preston at the start of the campaign.
It remained clear that Sunderland would be looking to part ways with the winger, with his departure to LNZ Cherkasy confirmed earlier in the week.
Writing via his Instagram, Bennette said: “Thank you very much to the fans and teammates for the way they welcomed me. The support of the fans from day one to my last day in Sunderland treated me in the best way possible.
Sunderland | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Jewison Bennette | 21 | 2 | 2 |
“My teammates welcomed me in a good way in the dressing room and made me feel at home. I will always carry those details in my heart. I wish them the best. I wanted to thank the U21 coaches. They helped me stay strong and focused on my goals. Now I have a new opportunity, and I want to make the most of it.”
Hume passed on his best wishes in the replies to his post saying “Good luck,” followed by a love heart emoji.
Bennette showcases the risks with Sunderland model
More often than not, Sunderland’s youth-oriented approach has served as a positive, but Bennette’s time on Wearside is a showcase of where things can go wrong.
The potential benefits are massive, but as always, young foreign players can struggle to adapt to the intensity of English football, which has seemingly been the case here with his lack of game time.
Ultimately, the Bennette deal will go down as a failure, but one that will have minimal influence on the good work that certainly overshadows it.
Bennette will be remembered fondly for his entertaining piece of skill in the build up to Sunderland’s fifth goal against Southampton last season, matched with his stoppage time equaliser away to Watford.
