Trai Hume awful, 7/10 can hold head high – Sunderland player ratings vs West Ham

Sunderland were beaten 3-1 by West Ham on Saturday.

Sunderland beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last time out in the Premier League, helping Regis Le Bris‘ side stay in touch with the race for European qualification.

West Ham were slight favourites to beat Sunderland on Saturday, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men looking to build on their shock win over Spurs last time out.

Granit Xhaka has been superb for Sunderland since signing in this season’s summer window, but Le Bris was without the Swiss midfielder through injury at the London Stadium.

Trai Hume puts in West Ham horror show

There wasn’t many players wearing a Sunderland shirt on Saturday that will be happy with their performances, and one of those who might be certainly isn’t Trai Hume.

Dragged off at half-time, the Northern Ireland international conceded the penalty that enabled West Ham to score their second of the game.

Hume left a dangling leg on Oliver Scarles, and Jarrod Bowen obliged the opportunity provided to him to double the Hammers’ lead on 28 minutes.

As per Sofascore, Hume failed to win a single tackle in his first half showing, whilst also lost all of his three contested duels.

He registered a passing accuracy of just 79 per cent, and just did not look comfortable playing ahead of Nordi Mukiele down the right.

Brian Brobbey shows his class once again

Having scored the winning goal in Sunderland’s win over Crystal Palace last time out, Brian Brobbey once again got on the scoresheet on Saturday.

The 23-year-old striker is fast becoming a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light, having joined from Ajax in the summer.

He gave Sunderland hope at the London Stadium in the second half, after latching onto a Mukiele cross to head home from seven yards.

It was a superb header, with Alphonse Areola holding no chance of saving it in the West Ham goal.

Brobbey had to work off scraps all afternoon, but he’s shown that he’s not shy of getting embroiled in physical battles with centre-backs, and that he can pop up with a goal out of seemingly nowhere.

He’s proving to be an excellent signing for Sunderland, and with some better service around him that should arrive moving forward if the Black Cats stay in the Premier League, he could score plenty of goals on Wearside.
