Three clubs Patterson could join after Ortega signing update at Sunderland
Anthony Patterson could be on his way out of Sunderland this summer.
It’s evident that Sunderland are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and Mackem News understands that the Black Cats have made an approach to sign Stefan Ortega from Manchester City.
Should that deal go through, it would leave question marks over the future of Patterson, who would almost certainly become second in line for the goalkeeper position.
Sunderland may look to sell while his stock is high, and bring pure profit into the club, and there will undoubtedly be suitors if that were to be the case.

Leicester could be in the market for a new goalkeeper
Mads Hermansen is currently Leicester’s number one, though his future is in doubt ahead of their return to the Championship.
The Dane impressed for the Foxes in the Premier League and has already attracted interest ahead of a potential summer exit.
While Leicester appear close to signing Asmir Begovic, they may still be in the market for a new number one, and Patterson would be an option.
Patterson has been linked with a move there in the past, and it would not be a surprise to see that interest rekindle again if Hermansen does move on.

Aaron Ramsdale replacement may be needed at Southampton
Several goalkeepers have been linked with Sunderland this summer, including Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Competition | Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
Premier League | 30 | 66 | 3 |
However, those transfer links have since died down, though there is still every chance that Ramsdale departs the Saints this summer.
Will Still, especially given the links connecting him with the Sunderland job last summer, will be aware of Patterson and may look to pounce should he become available.

Patterson to move to Manchester United?
Man United have had plenty of issues over the last few seasons, and goalkeeping has certainly been right up there at the top of the list.
They are once again in the market for a new one this summer, and have been linked with Senne Lammens, who has also been mooted for a move to Sunderland.
Patterson is unlikely to be the go-to option for the Red Devils, though, given their target of securing European football, he could represent an option when it comes to the homegrown quota.
After being linked with Illan Meslier earlier in the window, it would not be a surprise to see this link crop up should the Black Cats seal a new arrival of their own.
