This is what supercomputer expects to happen when Sunderland host Leeds

Sunderland host Leeds on Sunday, looking to get back to winning ways.

Sunderland were held to a 0-0 draw by Brighton on the road last time out, and will now face off against their fellow newly-promoted outfit.

Regis Le Bris confirmed that Dan Neil could return for Sunderland, who have no new injury concerns heading into the contest.

The Stadium of Light will be rocking on 28 December, and they should be after a new prediction emerged for the clash.

Sunderland win predicted by supercomputer

Sunderland have exceeded Leeds this season, despite finishing 24 points below them in the Championship in 2024-25.

That is reflected in the prediction from Opta Analyst’s supercomputer, which gives the Black Cats a heavy advantage for the contest.

The Mackems have been handed a 46.9 per cent chance of victory, with the visitors only having a 26.8 per chance.

The draw is the least likely outcome, with a 26.3 per cent chance of shared points when the sides meet.

Le Bris cannot be too confident in Leeds clash

Although the supercomputer gives his side a huge chance of victory, Le Bris cannot get complacent with his team selection or tactics.

Daniel Farke’s side have proven to be a handful in their recent run, with 13 goals in their last five matches.

They have picked up eight points from Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford and Crystal Palace, and are in a much better position than a few weeks ago.

The Peacocks sit 16th in the division, but they have a six-point buffer to the relegation zone, and are increasing in confidence.

That is in contrast to the Black Cats, who have failed to score in over 300 minutes of football since Chemsdine Talbi’s strike in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on 3 December, per Opta.

Of course, Nick Woltemade’s own goal secured all three points in the derby, but they cannot rely on opposition players putting the ball in the back of their own nets consistently.

Le Bris’ side have to rediscover their shooting boots, ideally against the Elland Road outfit next time out.
