Talbi medical underway as Sunderland spending spree continues

Sunderland have shown plenty of ambition since securing their return to the Premier League, and they are now on the verge of completing another signing.

Régis Le Bris is determined to keep the Black Cats in the top flight, but a lot of reinforcements are needed in the squad as they face an uphill battle.

Sunderland are spending heavily as they are backing their manager with the resources to try and beat the drop, and another exciting signing is on the way.

Habib Diarra, Enzo Le Fee and Noah Sadiki have all arrived at the Stadium of Light for significant fees, and more money will be spent in the coming days.

Sunderland agree deal to sign Chemsdine Talbi

Sunderland are adding another attacker to their squad following the departure of Tommy Watson, as they have now agreed a deal to sign Club Brugge star Chemsdine Talbi.

Watson has joined Brighton after becoming the hero in the Championship play-off Final, and Talbi will now arrive as a winger to replace him.

Talbi’s record for Club Brugge

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (5 July), a £19.8million transfer fee has been agreed between Sunderland and the Belgian giants, which will see Talbi move to the Premier League.

Talbi is undergoing a medical ahead of his move, which will see him sign a five-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland smash spending records

Prior to this window, Sunderland’s record transfer was that of Didier Ndong, who joined in 2016 for around £13.6m.

Sunderland still have just under two months left in the window, but they have already broken this record three times, and Talbi’s transfer will be the fourth.

Their absence from the Premier League since 2017 has meant that the Black Cats could not spend at the same level as top-flight clubs, who have seen a dramatic increase in expenditure in the last few years as a collective.

They will need to compete as financial underdogs as a result next season, but this significant investment into the squad is promising as Sunderland aim to remain in the Premier League following their dramatic return.
