Talbi medical results emerge from Cleadon as Sunderland agree £2.5m bonus package

Sunderland have been growing ever closer to completing the signing of Chemsdine Talbi over the last few days.

The 20-year-old winger notched seven goals and five assists for Club Brugge last term, and he seems set to become the latest star to make the switch to Wearside.

Talbi seems destined to add to the Mackems’ crop of bright young talent, and there will surely be plenty of excitement surrounding his arrival.

The Black Cats are also close to securing a deal to sign Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid, as they seem likely to add to their current tally of four summer signings imminently.

Talbi completes medical and will join for a potential fee of £18.9m

Sunderland’s eyes have been fixed firmly on Talbi since they agreed a fee with Brugge on Saturday (5 July).

The deal to sign the youngster has progressed incredibly quickly, as the Black Cats seem destined to continue their impressively efficient dealings in the transfer market ahead of their Premier League return.

Talbi flew into the UK on Tuesday (8 July) for his medical at Cleadon, and the Belgian youth international is now understood to have completed all of the necessary tests, according to Sacha Tavolieri (8 July).

He is set to sign a five-year deal at the Stadium of Light, with the transfer expected to cost an initial £16.4million.

The deal is also believed to include performance-related bonuses in the region of £2.5m, which could take the deal up to a total fee of £18.9m.

Sunderland have made a great start to their summer

The reality of today’s Premier League is that all three newly-promoted sides will need to spend heavily to have any chance of survival, but they will also need to see virtually all of their investments pay off immediately.

There can be no doubting the fact that Regis Le Bris’ side face an uphill task, but they have made a hugely impressive start to their summer transfer business.

Investment is coming thick and fast from the club’s hierarchy, and their dealings so far are arguably the most impressive of the three promoted sides.

Talbi is yet another new acquisition who could have a huge future ahead of him at the Stadium of Light, and even if Sunderland do suffer the worst at the end of next term, then they are surely well-placed to bounce straight back to the big time.
