Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris earmarked for Chelsea job after Enzo Maresca sack news
Regis Le Bris is catching everyone’s attention with the job he’s doing with Sunderland.
It’s business as usual this weekend, as Sunderland prepare to travel to face Brighton in the first of several fixtures where they will be missing players to AFCON.
However, with the January window approaching, attention will slowly start getting drawn to incomings and outgoings, and not necessarily just from a player perspective.
Le Bris has done a remarkable job at the Stadium of Light, and it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Chelsea legend wants to see Le Bris at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are having a good campaign in fourth, albeit eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.
However, there have been a few concerns raised over the future of Enzo Marecsa, not only because he’s been linked with the Man City job should Pep Guardiola depart.
There’s also been the occasional murmur that he could be sacked at Stamford Bridge, though a report from The Sportzine claims that Chelsea have no plans to sack Maresca, but that didn’t stop Salomon Kalou from naming potential replacements.
On that list is Sunderland’s Le Bris.
“He built his reputation at Lorient by developing young talent and playing progressive football, and now at Sunderland, he’s showing he can translate those ideas into a different environment,” Kalou said.
“That combination of nurturing players and tactical innovation makes him an intriguing option for a club like Chelsea.”
“So while Maresca still has time to turn things around, if Chelsea were to make a change, Lampard, Iraola, and Le Bris would all be strong candidates.”
Le Bris would be silly to leave Sunderland
As unlikely as it is, Sunderland could finish above Chelsea this season, though that isnt the only reason Le Bris is better off on Wearside.
With the success he has delivered since joining in the Championship, the Frenchman has a remarkable amount of credit in the bank, and that would evaporate the second he moved to a new club.
Le Bris’ Sunderland record
- 68 games
- 30 wins
- 19 draws
- 19 losses
- 1.6 points per game
Especially at Chelsea, where the expectations are high, and the slightest indication of a downturn in form can force the fans to turn on you.
Sunderland and Le Bris are on course for something special this season, and there is no reason why they would want to abandon that already.
