Sunderland’s new home kit leaked as image emerges

Sunderland are all systems go as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

The Mackems are back in the Premier League after a 2-1 win in the play-off final against Sheffield United.

Sunderland are now set for a special modern look as they celebrate their return to the first tier, with kit leaks prompting plenty of fan reaction.

Sunderland home kit given more modern look

A leaked design shared with Roker Report shows off a modern twist to their 80s-inspired shirt from last season.

The kit features black chevrons on the shoulders and the Mackems’ unique red and white stripes.

The red stripes are bordered by small sporadic white curved lines.

Last season’s kit was a more retro Hummel design similar to the shirts they produced for the Black Cats during the 80s.

Similar to the 90s-inspired away Sunderland attire, it has a thick layered collar which is black and has a red and white border, with the Hummel and sponsor logo in black.

A leaked image of the away kit that surfaced on X shows off the classic design from the 90s.

The image showed a model on the beach wearing the blue jersey featuring the new W88 gambling logo.

In the 1990s Sunderland wore the retro away shirt between 1988-1991.

Sunderland’s new gambling sponsor has sparked debate online. In the 2024/25 Premier League season, 11 of the 20 clubs had a gambling sponsor as their front-of-shirt sponsor.

Betting sponsors will be banned before the 2026/27 season begins, and fans are pushing for the ban to be pushed forward.

Sunderland’s potential home kit looks out of place

Compared to the leaked away kit, Sunderland’s potential new home jersey is a stark contrast.

The away shirt is simple and clean, whereas the home kit seems overcomplicated in comparison.

The sporadic white lines on the home shirt’s red stripes add a modern twist to the attire, which doesn’t align with Hummel’s retro style.

Last season, Hummel did an excellent job of keeping the home shirt neat and simple, to match the retro away shirt.

While the potential new home shirt adds something different to Sunderland’s usual red and white stripes, it lacks synergy with the away jersey.
