Katie Kitching has been nominated for the latest Barclays Player of the Month award as a result of her performances for Sunderland Women.

Mel Reay's side have had an up-and-down campaign so far but the quality of individual players has shone through on several occasions.

As of late, Kitching has been the one in the spotlight with her January performances earning her a nomination for the Player of the Month award, as confirmed via the club's X account (4 February).

With two goal contributions in as many games, her performances have earned her the recognition she deserves, with plenty more to come from her.

Sunderland Women need to find consistency

After a slow start to the campaign, the Black Cats seemed to find their feet before finding themselves on a decent run of form but somewhat of a rollercoaster of a season has panned out since.

Reay's side are winless in their last two, having secured just a point in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn prior to their recent 1-0 defeat against Birmingham City.

There is no doubting the level of quality within the side, but finding consistency within the team performance has been somewhat of a concern and if Reay can find a way to remedy that, they have every chance of success.

Sunderland Women find themselves just five points behind league leaders Birmingham, having played the same number of games, although with several teams below the Blues having a game in hand, that could change.

The Black Cats are next in league action on 16 February with an away trip to London City, a side that could move to the summit of the league with a win.
